About JEM Road Construction
JEM is a family-owned business and was founded by Wayne Murray in 2005 after successfully building his career in the industry with a number of surfacing companies.
During this time, he gained valuable knowledge which enabled him to progress and eventually take the step to start his own business. As the business grew, he was shortly followed by Joanne Murray who took over responsibility for all the administration duties and training of the workforce.

I have seen the business go from strengh to strengh over the years of which I am immensely proud of. During this time we have secured many contracts and continue to have a good relationship with our clients many of which keep coming back to us for all their road repair and surfacing needs knowing that we are reliable and will turn out good quality work.

Since joining the Company, I have seen it successfully grow, and we are now a well-recognised Road surfacing Contractor within the Northeast of England with a reputation for quality and good customer service. I have been part of implementing a training and development program for our employees which in many cases has allowed them to learn new skills and progress within the company. As the business grows, we have given many local people the opportunity to thrive in the industry by offering apprenticeships and specialized training for a number of construction plant.

I joined JEM in 2023 as a Director, bringing 10 years of hands-on experience in logistics within the road construction industry. In my role, I work alongside Wayne, Joanne and James to manage the full scope of the business. It’s been inspiring to see JEM consistently grow, securing increasingly ambitious projects and retaining fantastic clients. Our success is built on hiring the most skilled operatives and turning out work that is nothing short of the highest quality in the industry.

I have been in the industry since 2003, having previously worked at Tarmac and Northumbrian Roads. I have known Wayne and the JEM business since 2012 and have always been impressed by the quality of work they turn out and how highly regarded they are by their clients. I was delighted to join the team in January 2025 as a director and look forward to helping to drive JEM Road Construction forward to become the leading independent surfacing contractor in the region.
